Course Title:

Rocky Terrain 4WD Course

General Notes:

Previous experience: Must have current C class (motor vehicle) drivers license

Course Description: On completion of the course clients will be able to identify 4WD terms and terminologies.

In a hands on practical session clients will be able to gain the skills and knowledge necessary to operate and recover a 4WD vehicle safely in rocky conditions in differing situations. Operate a high lift jack, exhaust jack and a hand winch safely.

Clients will learn all safety and operational aspects of all kinds 4WD vehicle recovery gear. 

Content: 4WD vehicle pre-departure checks (preparation), correct driving techniques in rocky conditions, river and water crossing, correct vehicle recovery points, river and water crossings, vehicle recovery gear such as exhaust jack, winch's, high lift jack, types of basic vehicle recovery gear and their use, tyre/wheel changes, hill ascents and descents, kinds of 4WD suspension systems and their ability, kinds of transmission and their functionality, key/stall hill starts, vehicle communications, convoy procedures and environmental impact issues.

What to bring: Essential: A registered 4WD vehicle, a full tank of fuel, lunch though we have fridges on board if you require beverages and such items to remain chilled, gloves, good shoes, sun screen, hat, water (about 5 litres), a spare wheel. Non-essential (if you have these items that's great, if not we will have them with us): UHF radios, snatch strap, shovel,

Duration: This course is run on either a Saturday or a Sunday pending negotiation with group client bookings, For departure time and location for both days please call Geoff on the details below.

What we supply on the day: Morning tea with fruit cake, full compliment of tools, full compliment of self-reliant  4WD vehicle recovery gear, air compressors, hand held UHF radio's, fire extinguishers, senior first aid trained personnel and off-road 1st aid kit, GPS capability, tyre deflation devices, leader and tail end Charlie & of course we won't leave Roger behind!   

Additional Costs: Fuel usage for your vehicle and any other expenses you may incur for the duration of the course. Please note that your vehicle is not insured through Ultimate 4WD Training for this activity, so please check that your current vehicle insurance covers your off-road requirements during the course adequately.

We do use gazetted 4WD tracks.
